certain types of cancers and the reduction in the risk of developing other cancers. Don't delay - make that appointment today
and remember it's nicer to neuter!
- Did you know that we can also neuter and vaccinate rabbits? Please ask for further details.
Dental disease can make your pet unwell. Studies show that 85% of dogs and 70% of cats over 3 years of age show signs of
dental disease. If your pet has bad breath or any other signs of dental disease - don't ignore it, come and see us for a check
up!
We advise yearly vaccinations, which include a full health check, as an important aid in preventing potentially life-threatening
diseases in your pets. If your pet's vaccinations have lapsed don't worry, just call us today and we can make an appointment to
get things back on track.
Did you know that ear disease is a common problem affecting pets of all ages? The ear is a complex structure, protected
externally by a pinna (or flap). A narrow external ear canal carries sound down to the ear drum, where it passes onto the
middle and inner ear. Most of the problems seen in cats and dogs involve disease of the external ear canal - a condition
called otitis externa (or canker). Symptoms often include:
- Ear rubbing
- Head shaking
- Reddened, irritated skin lining the external ear canal.
- There is often a discharge which may be foul smelling.
Causes of otitis externa commonly including ear mites, trapped foreign bodies (such as grass awns) and localised
inflammation of the skin lining the ear canals - often as part of a more generalised skin condition. The condition is frequently
complicated by opportunistic bacterial and fungal infections.
If your pet is showing any of the symptoms described above, please arrange a check-up with us. Early diagnosis and
treatment gives us the best chance of a speedy and successful outcome.
- PET INSURANCE - DON'T BE CAUGHT WITHOUT IT!
You insure yourself, your house and your car - but what about your pet?Veterinary medicine has become increasingly
sophisticated and we are now able to diagnose and treat many conditions which - just a few years ago - were totally
untreatable.
Each year, on average 1 in 3 pets suffer illness or injury, so unexpected veterinary bills can, unfortunately, occur at any time.
We often think of insurance covering treatment of broken bones of wounds following road traffic accidents, but don’t forget
animals can develop many long term conditions such as skin disease, ear problems, heart disease and arthritis (to name
just a few!), for which an increasing range of treatment options are now available.
With appropriate insurance cover, we can hopefully ensure that your pet will get the best of care without the cost of treatment
becoming a limiting factor. Don’t take any chances, make sure your pet is insured!
Did you know: The average cost of insuring your dog is €3.80 weekly & for a cat this figure is €2.40
